The International Union of Railways (UIC) is hosting a workshop on “Enhancing gender-responsive design for rail stations” at the Gare Montparnasse in Paris. This event is part of the broader agenda of the UIC Sustainability Action Week, and offers a unique opportunity to explore how gender-responsive design principles can make railway stations more accessible, safe and efficient for women.

The workshop combines a practical walking technical visit to Gare Montparnasse with an engaging interactive session. Participants will gain firsthand insights into real-world examples of gender-responsive design elements, followed by expert-led discussions on best practices, including case studies on:

  • Facilities at stations
  • Security
  • Gender-focused design of rolling stock
  • Perspective of female rail workers

This workshop is part of the ongoing Train 2B Equal opt-in project, championed by the Italian State Railways (Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane – FS), Italian Railway Network (Rete Ferroviaria Italiana – RFI), Catalonian Railways (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya – FGC) and Infrabel, which are paving the way for change and encouraging the sector to enhance gender equality in the rail sector.

Join us in Paris to delve into cutting-edge design strategies, address key operational challenges, and discover the benefits of incorporating gender-responsive design into early planning stages.

Register now to secure your spot at this workshop and be part of a hands-on experience of gender-responsive solutions at railway stations.
