Cleanliness is no longer just an operational task — it is a strategic pillar of customer experience, safety, and trust in commuter rail services.

On 16 January 2026, the UIC, through its CRTS Commuter and Regional and CEMP Customer Experience groups, is organising the online workshop “Cleaning Protocols for Railway Services”, bringing together international railway experts to explore current practices and innovative approaches to cleaning across on-board services, stations, and rolling stock maintenance.

This 2.5-hour online workshop will feature concrete case studies and operational insights from leading European railway operators, including DSB, SNCB, Trenord, SBB, Trenitalia, FGC, and NS, addressing topics such as:

  • Managing cleaning operations under high passenger flows and tight turnaround times
  • Ensuring consistent quality standards while optimising costs
  • Integrating new tools, technologies, and organisational models
  • Enhancing passenger perception and overall customer experience through cleanliness

Date: 16 January 2026
Time: 09:00 – 12:30 (CET)
Format: Online (Microsoft Teams)

Registration is now open: https://evenium.events/uiccleaning

This workshop is particularly relevant for railway operators, infrastructure managers, cleaning service providers, research institutions, and industry partners seeking to benchmark practices, share experiences, and contribute to the harmonisation of cleaning standards across the global railway community.
