The 2014 Climate Comet of the Year award was presented to both Volvo Group and Volvo Cars at the annual Sustainable Logistics Seminar “Hållbar logistik” in central Stockholm last week.

Every year, Green Cargo presents the Climate Comet of the Year award to a company, which based on its circumstances, has made major improvements to the climate impact of its logistics operations. For the first time ever, two companies received the award for their partnership in developing a long-term, sustainable rail-based transport solution.

“With their shared logistics chain spanning five countries, the Volvo Group and Volvo Cars are torchbearers for cross-border transport solutions. With their exacting requirements for punctuality, safety and sustainability for their shipments from Umeå, Sweden in the north to Ghent, Belgium in the south, they contribute to developing and promoting green transport solutions in Europe,” says Jan Kilström, CEO of Green Cargo.

This is the seventh successive year that the Climate Comet of the Year award has been presented. Previous years’ awards went to Stena Recycling, Söderenergi, Dagab, the European Transport Organisation LKW Walter, Coop and wine importer Fondberg.

Motive:
Green Cargo’s environmental award – Climate Comet of the Year – aims to promote implemented logistics changes that reduce climate and environmental impact. The award was presented to two companies, the Volvo Group and Volvo Cars, for their shared efforts in developing a long-term, sustainable rail-based transport solution. This has resulted in an innovative and advanced international train system with a high capacity utilisation rate and stable operation, in which exacting requirements for short lead times and high precision have been combined.
