Following the Bavaria Ticket, the DB Passenger App by DB Regio now includes the same offer for the regions of Baden-Wurttemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland. The app is compatible with iOS and Android and is completely free of charge.
These regional tickets allow groups of people to benefit from an offer based on “the more there are of you, the less you pay.” For example, a person buying a Baden-Wurttemberg ticket will pay 23 euros and each additional passenger will pay only five euros, so the single ticket finally amounts to 8.60 euros if five people travel together.
On the app, it is possible to create communities of travellers or to join one, as well as to rate (thumbs up or down) fellow commuters or add them in favourites. Besides setting preferences (special meeting place, women-only, etc.) when creating a community, members of the group can also chat on the app.
The application was designed in cooperation with a start-up composed of students from Munich Technical University. “Thanks to this work hand-in-hand, we are sure that we meet the needs of young travellers. Besides, it underlines our digital expertise while making us even more competitive and offering lower prices for travellers”, said Stefan Gierisch, Project Manager of the DB Passenger App of DB Regio.
There are now 25,000 users of the app in Bavaria. After Baden-Wurttemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland, other regions are set to benefit from an upgrade of the app.
