In 2016, Allegro high-speed services between St. Petersburg - Helsinki carried 392,500 passengers, an increase of 8.2% on 2015.
Since the launch of the international high-speed link between St. Petersburg and Helsinki on 12 December 2010, Allegro trains have carried a total of 2.3 million passengers.
The Allegro has become a more attractive travel option for passengers as a result of flexible tariffs, a number of marketing initiatives, reduced travel time and a range of additional services, including the additional special double formation trains laid on during peak demand periods, for example during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
Four pairs of Allegro trains now run between St. Petersburg and Helsinki every day.
Allegro high-speed trains account for 86% of the total traffic between Finland and Russia, while rail transport between the two countries accounts for more than 70% of the total volume of passenger numbers with foreign countries to Russia’s “far abroad.” Allegro trains ply the Saint-Petersburg - Helsinki route and the Leo Tolstoy branded train runs between Moscow - Helsinki.
