Morocco is already Africa’s leading railway nation in terms of network size and traffic volumes, and will soon be the first to operate a high speed line.
The 6th edition of the UIC International Seminar on Railway Operating Safety and Security, which will take place from 19 to 21 April 2017 in Tangier (Morocco) and will have as its overarching theme “High speed rail: the challenges of safe and secure operations”, will provide a platform via which to share experience and good practice surrounding high speed rail systems at all stages in their life cycle - from design through to construction and opening for revenue service.
Drawing on existing achievements and specific examples, the seminar aims to present experience and good practice from across the world in high speed rail systems at all stages in their life cycle - from design through to construction and opening for revenue service.
Morocco’s high speed line in figures:
- One 200-km double-track line;
- 169 rail and road bridges;
- 120 hydraulic structures and 12 viaducts;
- 12 ultramodern double-deck high speed train sets with ERTMS signalling and GSM-R telecommunications;
- 121 seats in first class and 412 in second;
- 80 % of works contracts awarded to Moroccan companies;
- 30 million man-days.
- Scheduled services:
- 32 trains per day;
- 1 departure per hour in each direction;
- 1 departure every 30 mins at peak hours.
- Environmental benefits:
- Will reduce annual CO2 emissions by 20,000 tonnes.
