EcoTransIT World

Energy consumption and emissions data can be calculated quickly and efficiently for the global transport chain using EcoTransIT World.

EcoTransIT World compares energy consumption, CO2 and exhaust atmospheric emissions for planes, cars, trains and trucks. The methodology behind the calculations is sound and scientific, taking a life cycle-based approach to energy, and is approved by the European Environment Agency.

Fed with the most accurate available data for all transport modes, EcoTransIT World was developed in cooperation with ifeu (the German Institute for Environment and Energy) and technical providers of European routing systems and software, Hacon and IVE mbH.

This data includes rail data from the new UIC Energy and CO2 database. EcoTransIT World does not merely calculate the energy or fuel it takes to run the train, car or the plane. Calculations include emissions from cumulative energy consumption, including the energy used to produce the electricity or fuel, using a “well to wheel” approach.

EcoTransIT World tool was originally developed by a consortium of five European railways: FS, SNCF, SBB, DB and Green Cargo.
