TopRail, the UIC working group focused on Tourism Potential of Railways was held in Paris on 10 April. The meeting was attended by railway representatives from the railway operators from Austria, Switzerland, Hungary and Italy as well as representatives from the European and the World Tourist Trains and Trams associations (Fedecrail and Wattrain) and the international luxury brand Belmond.
For the second time also Mr Moreau from the most important luxury cruise trains operator, Belmond was among the participants.
The group had the opportunity to report on the latest news from their companies during the habitual round table.
The main points of the meeting here:
- The ongoing project GIRAT “Guidelines on Increasing Rail Attractiveness for Tourism”
- The organisation of the II TopRail Forum to be held from 17 – 18 May in Pietrarsa, Naples
- The validation of TopRail III as an opt-in project to be presented to the European Work programme 2020 for the next three years
On this occasion, a special guest joined the meeting: Mr Davenne, UIC Deputy Director General welcomed the participants and opened the meeting. He confirmed his presence during the next TopRail Forum to be held in Naples in May and expressed that “this Forum as well as the guidelines in preparation are a good opportunity to think about the new ways of tourism and how railways can act as the backbone of sustainable mobility.”
